Designer Spotlight: Sydney Fiala
G.C.I.T. rising junior Sydney Fiala has had quite the busy schedule these past few months. From starring in the Eagle’s Conservatory production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this past June, to joining the Annie JR design team as Assistant Scenic Designer under Andrew Robinson, we’re left wondering one thing: What can’t she do?
We sat down with Sydney to learn more about her many, many talents.
A jack of all trades, Sydney started her own small Etsy business (SydsMinis) in 2017 when she was just a young middle school student. Since her start, she has amassed hundreds of sales and satisfied customers with her unique handmade Miniature Polymer Clay Jewelry and Trinkets. As her business grew, so did her talents and abilities. In addition to making fun charms and earrings, Sydney progressed into diorama making.
Lucky for us, Sydney just can’t seem to sit still. After finishing her run on our Conservatory stage as Logainne’s Mother in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, she wasn’t ready to say “see ya later” to the Eagle just yet. With the chance given to showcase her dexterous artisanship , Sydney went behind the scenes of our summer camp musical, Annie JR., to use her talents and craft a 3D model set (pictured below) alongside Andrew Robinson (Annie JR. Scenic Designer).
“I’ve done a lot of tech work at my school, and I wanted to do something fun with my summer. After Putnam closed I reached out to Kylie (Westerbeck) and was just like ‘Hey! How can I be a part of this?’, and now I get to work with Andrew.”
Being so young with already so many accomplishments, is there anything that could possibly challenge Sydney throughout this process?
“I’m actually really good at math, but some of the things I wouldn’t understand if I was on my own. I feel like I would mess up measurements!”
She could have fooled us! With knacks for a multitude of things, we’re left to wonder about what big plans Sydney has for her future.
“I just found out triple majoring was a thing and it’s possible, so that’s cool! I have so many interests!”
While triple majoring might sound a little insane to most, if one person could do it, it most certainly is her.
Whatever her future holds, we know one thing to be true: The world better get ready for the undeniable talent that is Sydney Fiala.
